Jane Swearingen Leger has been a Board Certified Personal Injury attorney serving clients in Texas for the last 21 years. Board certification is an accomplishment that less than 2% of attorneys in Texas receive. She is focused on personal injury law, as well as maritime and employment law cases. Jane is an ownership partner on the team at The Ferguson Law Firm, LLP in Beaumont, serving Southeast Texas.
She is proud to represent plaintiffs who have been the victims of industrial accidents, car accidents, employment discrimination, and more. She has handled cases all over the United States, and is highly experienced in a broad range of cases, including those involving maritime/offshore accidents with boilers and pressure vessels and the state laws that may affect these cases.
Jane is extremely dedicated to her clients, which she has proven time and again in major cases including a $40 million settlement for a Georgia burn injury victim that took seven years to litigate. She also obtained a $66 million award for injured industrial workers—this case also received an early partial settlement of $10 million. She has successfully argued before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Texas Supreme Court. She won a case involving insurance breach of fiduciary duty when customers of a Lavaca County restaurant became sick with Hepatitis A. This case went to the Texas Supreme Court on appeal, again deciding in favor of Jane’s clients.
In her free time, Jane loves spending time with her family, including her husband John who has served in law enforcement for 30 years and is now the commander of the SWAT team in Jefferson County. The couple’s twins—Claire and Connor—were born prematurely and forced to overcome a number of obstacles from birth. Jane attributes her fierce dedication to the injury victims she represents to this experience. Together, the Legers enjoy being outside, with activities such as fishing, hunting, boating, and scuba diving.
Jane received her law degree from Baylor University School of Law in Waco after completing her undergraduate education at Baylor University. During her education, she served as an intern in the sexual assault unit of the McLennan County District Attorney’s office. She was named to the Texas Super Lawyers® list and the Texas Rising Stars™ lists by Thomson Reuters and Texas Monthly Magazine in 2004. This rare distinction is achieved by just 5% of lawyers in the state.
