Michael Thomas Cooper is an experienced trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury and civil rights cases at McLeod Law Group. Michael’s civil litigation practice includes cases relating to tractor-trailer truck wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, dram shop (liquor liability/ drunk driver) actions, child sexual assault and abuse, medical malpractice, general negligence, and civil rights claims brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983. He has also successfully represented clients in sophisticated contract dispute litigation. Michael has obtained millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts on behalf of clients at McLeod Law Group.

Michael Cooper joined McLeod Law Group after gaining substantial trial experience with the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office. As a Public Defender, Michael represented more than 750 individuals charged with serious crimes and misdemeanors and tried more than 30 cases to verdict. Michael fought to protect the rights of all citizens through his zealous advocacy on behalf of his indigent clients.

Michael grew up in Charleston, South Carolina where he attended the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and Bishop England High School. Michael received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and as a member of the Order of Wig and Robe honors society.

Michael is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the Charleston County Bar Association. Michael is an active member of the Charleston community where he is a member of the Historic Rotary Club of Charleston and is the president of the Byrnes Downs Neighborhood Association.

Michael and his wife, Emily, live in West Ashley with their dog, George.
